Champagne G.H. Mumm Cuvée R. Lalou 75cl
The history: from the man to the wine
In the 20th century, the history of the House of G.H.MUMM was marked by the role played by its Chairman, René Lalou, a visionary and innovative businessman but also a humanist and an aesthete. For half a century, he helped to spread the reputation of the House and its wines around the world.
In tribute to him, a special cuvée bearing his name was produced from 1966 to 1985. Present in many starred restaurants, it was a great favourite of gourmets and Chefs.
In 2007, G.H.MUMM decided to revive this legendary cuvée. The Cellar Master devised a champagne de terroir bred from the best of the House vineyards and named it R. Lalou.
The tasting ritual
Incantation, decantation ... R. Lalou is an inspired wine that demands a ritual to celebrate its excellence. Decant the wine into a carafe. Place the carafe on the table next to the bottle. And experience its joyous expression in a Grand Cru glass.

Cuvée R.Lalou 1999
The history of the terroir
The year 1999 was characterised by contrasting temperatures and low acidity, combined with a rich sugar content reminiscent of the harvest of 1989, a year that engendered an exceptional vintage that is still recognised today.
The preparation
Expressing the quintessence of the G.H.MUMM terroir, the 1999 R. Lalou Cuvée is a selection from seven of the best parcels of the House vineyard: les Briquettes, les Bionnes, la Croix de Cramant for the Chardonnays and the Hannepés, les Crupots, les Rochelles, les Houles for the Pinots Noirs. It has been allowed to mature beyond the normal span, for ten years, to achieve the ultimate in complexity and vinosity. Still maturing and ageing, it embodies a new motto: “the best of the best” ...
The style: over to the Cellar Master
« To taste the R.Lalou Cuvée is to experience the very essence of the soil of G.H. MUMM, to embrace its soul and breathe its scents. A great wine characterised by the nobility of its flavours, the complexity of its palate and its astonishing persistence. »
Cuvée R.Lalou 1998
The history of the terroir
In the direct lineage of the 1982, 1990 and 1996 vintages, some of which have already passed into legend, the year 1998 was paradoxically marked by strong climatic contrasts. The harvest was sunny, which gave the wines a high degree of maturity and freshness, combining all the ingredients of the G.H.MUMM style of
“freshness and intensity”.
